A Strong Message of India’s Spiritual Heritage in Indonesia’s Multicultural Tradition: 24-Hour Akhand Ramayan in Jakarta

Indonesia is globally known for its cultural diversity, religious tolerance, and social harmony. Different traditions, languages, and cultures flourish here with mutual respect. In this vibrant multicultural environment, a grand Akhand Ramayan was organised in Jakarta to promote India’s spiritual heritage and the timeless values of Sanatan Dharma.

Akhand Ramayan is not merely a recitation; it represents the living consciousness of Sanatan Dharma. It guides society towards truth, compassion, duty, family values, and social balance. With the objective of preserving and promoting these eternal principles, the Jakarta Brahmin Association successfully organised this sacred event, bringing together the Indian diaspora and strengthening cultural unity.

This historic programme was held continuously for 24 hours on 17 and 18 January 2026, and was attended by more than 250 members of the Indian community from Jakarta and nearby areas. Through the uninterrupted recitation of the Ramcharitmanas, the event aimed to inspire the younger generation, strengthen cultural awareness, and promote unity and harmony in society.

The event was led under the guidance of Vijay Pandey (President) and supported by Smt. Ushati Mishra (Vice President), Kushvendra Sharma (General Secretary), Anurag Parashar, Prakash Chaturvedi, Surender Sharma, and other dedicated members of the Jakarta Brahmin Association. The collective commitment, discipline, and spirit of service ensured the smooth and successful conduct of the programme.

The programme was honoured by the presence of Dr. Sunil Karamchandani, representatives of the Jawaharlal Nehru Indian Cultural Centre, and the Embassy of India in Jakarta. Mr. Amit Mishra, First Secretary (Consular), also participated and appreciated the initiative. He stated that such events present India in Indonesia in all its diversity and richness, bringing people of different communities together and spreading the message of harmony while encouraging everyone to imbibe the values of Lord Rama in daily life.

The event was also live-streamed on YouTube, and the link was widely shared across Jakarta and India. This enabled many devotees to join virtually and experience the spiritual atmosphere despite physical distance.

This Akhand Ramayan highlighted that the message of Sanatan Dharma transcends borders and serves the welfare of humanity. Held for the first time in Jakarta, this landmark initiative stands as a powerful example of India’s spiritual tradition, cultural unity, and global brotherhood.
