Bollywood और OTT का बदलता रिश्ता: क्या Audience अब Theatres से ज्यादा Digital Content पसंद कर रही है?

भारत में Bollywood vs OTT की बहस अब सिर्फ Theatre और Streaming के बीच competition की नहीं रही। Audience का viewing behaviour तेजी से बदल रहा है। आज एक ही viewer किसी बड़ी फिल्म के लिए Theatre जा सकता है, लेकिन दूसरी फिल्म के लिए OTT release का इंतजार भी कर सकता है।
यानी सवाल यह नहीं है कि Theatre जीतेगा या OTT, बल्कि यह है कि आने वाले समय में दोनों का रिश्ता कैसा होगा।
Theatres खत्म नहीं हो रहे, लेकिन Audience ज्यादा Selective हो गई है
2025 में India का box office अब तक के सबसे बड़े स्तर पर पहुंचा। Ormax Media के मुताबिक Indian box office ने ₹13,395 करोड़ का gross collection किया, जबकि Hindi cinema ने ₹5,504 करोड़ का अब तक का सबसे बड़ा annual box office दर्ज किया।
इससे साफ है कि audience ने Theatre को पूरी तरह छोड़ा नहीं है।
लेकिन अब हर फिल्म के लिए Theatre जाना जरूरी नहीं माना जाता। बड़ी-scale वाली फिल्मों, event cinema, strong word-of-mouth और ऐसी stories जिन्हें बड़े screen पर देखने का experience मिले, उनके लिए audience अभी भी ticket खरीदने को तैयार है।
OTT India की Reach लगातार बढ़ रही है
OTT ने Indian Cinema को एक दूसरी viewing habit दी है—watch whenever, wherever.
Ormax Media के 2026 report के अनुसार India का OTT audience universe बढ़कर लगभग 664.9 million हो गया है। यह 2025 के 601.2 million से करीब 11% ज्यादा है। Paid OTT subscriptions भी बढ़कर लगभग 172.6 million हो गए हैं।
इसका मतलब है कि Digital Content अब सिर्फ alternative entertainment नहीं रहा। यह mainstream entertainment ecosystem का बड़ा हिस्सा बन चुका है।
OTT Release का इंतजार क्यों करती है Audience?
इसके पीछे कई reasons हैं:
- घर से आराम से फिल्म देखना
- Theatre ticket और travel का खर्च बचना
- अपनी convenience के अनुसार content देखना
- अलग-अलग languages का content आसानी से मिलना
- परिवार या दोस्तों के साथ अलग environment में viewing
- फिल्म को pause, rewind और बाद में देखने की सुविधा
सबसे महत्वपूर्ण बात यह है कि Theatre और OTT audiences पूरी तरह अलग नहीं हैं। Ormax के analysis में theatrical और paid-streaming audiences के बीच बड़ा overlap पाया गया है। यानी OTT viewer जरूरी नहीं कि Theatre viewer भी न हो।
Short-form Content ने Attention Span भी बदल दिया
Audience behaviour में सबसे बड़ा बदलाव सिर्फ OTT से नहीं आया है। Short-form content ने भी viewing habits को काफी प्रभावित किया है।
Reels, Shorts और दूसरे short-video formats ने users को कुछ ही seconds में content consume करने की आदत दी है। FICCI-EY के 2026 analysis के अनुसार 2025 में India में लगभग 500 million social media users थे और social platforms पर short-video consumption का हिस्सा काफी बढ़ा है।
इसका असर Film Industry पर भी पड़ रहा है।
अब फिल्म का promotion सिर्फ trailer और posters तक सीमित नहीं है। Short clips, memes, viral scenes, creator reactions और social-media conversations किसी फिल्म की reach और audience interest को तेजी से प्रभावित कर सकते हैं।
OTT ने Bollywood के Content को भी बदला
OTT के आने से सिर्फ distribution model नहीं बदला, storytelling भी बदली है।
Web series और digital films ने crime, social issues, regional stories, dark comedy, experimental narratives और niche subjects के लिए बड़ा audience space बनाया है।
लेकिन 2025 में एक और महत्वपूर्ण बदलाव दिखा। EY के अनुसार 2025 में theatrical release के बाद OTT पर जाने वाली फिल्मों की संख्या बढ़ी, जबकि direct-to-OTT releases 2024 के 60 से घटकर 2025 में लगभग 30 रह गईं। Digital rights buyers अब theatrical performance को ज्यादा importance दे रहे हैं।
यानी industry अब हर फिल्म को सीधे OTT पर भेजने के बजाय Theatre → OTT model को ज्यादा महत्व दे रही है।
क्या Audience Theatres से ज्यादा Digital Content पसंद कर रही है?
इसका सीधा जवाब है—हर audience के लिए नहीं।
EY की 2026 analysis के अनुसार surveyed cinemagoers में 81% ने Theatre experience को streaming से prefer किया। लेकिन साथ ही India में screen availability और affordability बड़ी challenges हैं। India में 2024 के दौरान लगभग 9,927 cinema screens थे, यानी करीब 7 screens per million population।
इसलिए कई लोगों के लिए OTT preference सिर्फ content choice नहीं, बल्कि access और convenience का भी सवाल है।
Bollywood का Future: Theatre + OTT + Short Video
आने वाले समय में Indian Film Industry को तीनों platforms के साथ काम करना होगा:
Theatre — बड़े cinematic experiences और event films के लिए।
OTT — long-form entertainment, diverse stories और wider accessibility के लिए।
Short-form — discovery, promotion, engagement और नए audience generation के लिए।
FICCI-EY के अनुसार 2025 में India का overall Media & Entertainment sector 9% बढ़कर ₹2.78 trillion तक पहुंचा और digital media पहली बार ₹1 trillion से ऊपर गया। वहीं film segment ने भी record ₹205 billion revenue दर्ज किया।
इससे संकेत मिलता है कि India में entertainment का future किसी एक platform का नहीं, बल्कि multi-platform consumption का है।
निष्कर्ष
Bollywood vs OTT को Theatre बनाम Digital की लड़ाई के रूप में देखना शायद सही नहीं होगा।
Audience अब ज्यादा demanding और selective है। वह अच्छी film को Theatre में देखने के लिए पैसे खर्च करेगी, लेकिन average content के लिए OTT का इंतजार भी कर सकती है।
आने वाले समय में वही films और creators ज्यादा सफल होंगे जो सिर्फ एक platform के लिए नहीं, बल्कि पूरे digital + theatrical ecosystem के लिए content strategy तैयार करेंगे।
