AI Infrastructure Investment 2026: Global Investment $769 Billion तक पहुंचने का अनुमान

India के लिए इसका क्या मतलब है?

 

AI infrastructure की global race में India भी तेजी से अपनी capacity बढ़ा रहा है।

भारत में installed data-centre power capacity 2020 के लगभग 375 MW से बढ़कर August 2026 तक करीब 1.57 GW हो गई है। सरकार के अनुसार AI और high-performance computing की बढ़ती demand इस expansion का एक प्रमुख कारण है।

India में data centres के प्रमुख locations में Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Delhi NCR और Gujarat शामिल हैं। इसके अलावा Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh और West Bengal जैसे राज्यों में भी data-centre investments का विस्तार हो रहा है।

IndiaAI Mission भी बढ़ा रहा है Compute Access

भारत सरकार की IndiaAI Mission का कुल outlay करीब ₹10,372 crore है। इसके तहत AI compute capacity बढ़ाने और startups, researchers तथा academia को affordable computing resources उपलब्ध कराने पर जोर दिया गया है।

मार्च 2026 में सरकार ने बताया था कि 38,000 से अधिक GPUs को common AI compute facility के लिए onboard किया जा चुका था। इन्हें eligible users को subsidised rates पर उपलब्ध कराया जा रहा है।

इसका महत्व इसलिए है क्योंकि advanced AI systems develop करने के लिए सिर्फ talented developers ही पर्याप्त नहीं होते। उन्हें compute capacity, data और reliable infrastructure भी चाहिए।


Data Centres के साथ Electricity की चुनौती

AI infrastructure का सबसे बड़ा practical challenge energy हो सकता है।

भारत सरकार के अनुसार data centres की electricity demand आने वाले वर्षों में तेजी से बढ़ने की उम्मीद है। वहीं, एक बाद की projection में AI data centres से 2031–32 तक लगभग 26.3 GW अतिरिक्त electricity load जुड़ने का अनुमान सामने आया है।

इसका मतलब है कि AI expansion के साथ सिर्फ नए servers बनाना पर्याप्त नहीं होगा। इसके लिए:

Power generation → Transmission → Data Centre → Computing → Cooling

पूरे infrastructure chain को scale करना होगा।


Cooling और Water भी बड़ी चुनौती

AI servers काफी heat generate करते हैं। इसलिए बड़े data centres में advanced cooling systems की जरूरत होती है।

भारत में industry अब direct-to-chip liquid cooling, immersion cooling, adiabatic cooling और closed-loop cooling जैसी technologies अपना रही है ताकि water और energy efficiency बेहतर की जा सके।

यह मुद्दा इसलिए महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि AI infrastructure का environmental impact केवल electricity तक सीमित नहीं है। Data centres के लिए water consumption, carbon emissions और local power demand भी महत्वपूर्ण factors हैं।

एक 2026 Nature Reviews analysis ने भी AI data-centre expansion को electricity demand, greenhouse-gas emissions और freshwater resources पर बढ़ते pressure से जोड़ा है।


AI Investment के साथ Safety Concerns क्यों बढ़ रहे हैं?

AI infrastructure में investment जितनी तेजी से बढ़ रहा है, उतनी ही तेजी से AI safety और governance पर सवाल भी उठ रहे हैं।

कुछ प्रमुख concerns हैं:

AI Safety

जैसे-जैसे AI systems अधिक capable होते हैं, यह सुनिश्चित करना जरूरी है कि वे predictable और controlled तरीके से operate करें।

Cybersecurity

AI infrastructure और advanced models पर cyberattacks होने की स्थिति में businesses और critical systems प्रभावित हो सकते हैं।

Energy और Environment

बड़े AI data centres को लगातार electricity और cooling resources की आवश्यकता होती है। इससे power grids, water resources और emissions पर pressure बढ़ सकता है।

Talent और Semiconductor Supply

AI expansion के लिए सिर्फ पैसा पर्याप्त नहीं है। Advanced chips, skilled workers, manufacturing capacity और reliable energy infrastructure की availability भी जरूरी है।

IEA ने भी AI buildout के दौरान electricity, grid connections, chip manufacturing capacity, high-bandwidth memory और capital में bottlenecks की ओर ध्यान दिलाया है।


क्या ज्यादा Investment का मतलब ज्यादा AI फायदा भी है?

जरूरी नहीं।

Investment बढ़ने का अर्थ है कि companies और investors AI infrastructure में बड़ी मात्रा में capital लगा रहे हैं। लेकिन इसका मतलब यह नहीं कि हर AI project समान रूप से successful होगा।

McKinsey के अनुसार AI adoption काफी व्यापक हो रहा है, लेकिन enterprises में AI से measurable financial returns अभी भी सभी organisations में समान नहीं हैं।

यानी अगला दौर सिर्फ “कितना पैसा लगाया जा रहा है” का नहीं होगा, बल्कि यह भी महत्वपूर्ण होगा कि उस infrastructure से कितनी productive और सुरक्षित AI applications बनती हैं।


India के लिए अवसर और चुनौतियां

India के लिए AI infrastructure expansion कई क्षेत्रों में opportunities पैदा कर सकता है:

  • Data-centre development
  • Cloud computing
  • AI startups
  • Semiconductor ecosystem
  • Renewable energy
  • AI research
  • High-performance computing
  • Skilled technology jobs
  • Enterprise AI adoption

KPMG ने India के data-centre ecosystem में FY35 तक करीब $90 billion का end-to-end opportunity अनुमानित किया है, जिसमें core data-centre capacity के साथ infrastructure और allied services भी शामिल हैं।

साथ ही challenges भी हैं—जैसे reliable electricity, water management, chip supply, cybersecurity, skilled workforce और responsible AI governance।


आगे क्या बदलेगा?

AI का अगला phase केवल बेहतर AI models बनाने की competition नहीं होगा। यह infrastructure competition भी होगा।

जिस ecosystem के पास पर्याप्त:

Compute + Chips + Data Centres + Energy + Talent + Security

होगा, वह AI economy में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाने की स्थिति में होगा।

India भी इसी दिशा में data centres, AI compute और semiconductor ecosystem को expand करने की कोशिश कर रहा है। Government की policy initiatives में IndiaAI Mission, Semiconductor programmes और data-centre infrastructure को बढ़ावा देने वाले measures शामिल हैं।

निष्कर्ष

2026 में global AI infrastructure और model architectures में investment लगभग $769 billion तक पहुंचने का अनुमान AI industry के scale में हो रहे बड़े बदलाव को दिखाता है। McKinsey का यह projection 2026 की पहली छमाही के investment pace पर आधारित है, इसलिए इसे final year-end figure के बजाय projection के रूप में समझना चाहिए।

AI का भविष्य केवल software या algorithms पर निर्भर नहीं करेगा। इसके पीछे data centres, GPUs, semiconductors, electricity, cooling systems और secure computing infrastructure की पूरी chain होगी।

India के लिए यह एक बड़ा infrastructure और technology opportunity है, लेकिन इसके साथ energy consumption, water usage, cybersecurity और AI safety जैसी चुनौतियों को भी address करना होगा।
