Arrest of UPCC Minority Cell chairman Shahnawaj Alam will prove costly for Yogi government: Anuradha Mishra Mona

Lucknow, 2 July 2020: Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) has condemned the arrest of its Minority Cell chairman Shahnawaj Alam, terming it illegal, undemocratic and extremely deplorable. Across the state the Congress workers are being harassed by the Yogi government and they are being sent to jail after getting them implicated in false cases.

Addressing media persons at the Congress office here, UPCC president Ajay Kumar Lallu said that the BJP government in the state is oppressive and is trampling democracy by abusing the police forces. The late night arrest of party’s Minority Cell chairman Alam is illegal, undemocratic and condemnable.

“Congress leaders and workers are committed to raising the voice for the people’s issues. The BJP government can abuse the police to silence the voice of other parties but not our party,” said Mr Lallu, while terming the police act as oppressive and undemocratic.

The UPCC chief told media persons that at the behest of Yogi Government the Congress soldiers are being sent to jails by implicating them into fake cases. At the instance of the government, the Congress workers are being subjected to oppression across the state. “The name of Minority Cell chairman Shahnawaj Alam neither figured in the FIR nor in the charge sheet, but the police lifted him from his house late night,” he said.

Mr Lallu further informed that the state’s BJP government is frustrated as the influence of the Congress is increasing. This government is scared, but the soldiers of Rahul and Priyanka are not scared. The Yogi government is trying to frighten us, but we are not scared. We will fight on the streets.

Mr Lallu further informed that hundreds of Congress workers have been slapped with fake cases. A false case has been registered against our General Secretary Mr Manoj Yadav when he was in the police custody in the Eco Garden. Even a case was registered against our Social Media in-charge Mr Mohit Pandey when he was on way to Lucknow from Delhi. How has all this been done and at whose behest, asked Mr Lallu.

Mr Lallu said that at the instance of Yogi government, the Congress office is being spied on. Those who acted as the informers for the Britishers are now spying on the Congress office through police and intelligence agency. For a month, the police was deputed at the gate police; what the police does at the party office gate, asked he.

Congress Legislature party leader Aradhana Mishra Mona, strongly deploring the police behaviour, said that the arrest of Alam was a cowardice and malicious act of the Yogi government. The government is trying to suppress the voice of opposition. The frustration of the Yogi government over the increasing influence of the Congress is quite obvious now.
It is worth mentioning that Shri Alam was lifted by the police from the gate of Golf Link Apartment in an unconstitutional manner and did not even give any information about his arrest for almost an hour.

Smt Mona said that the soldiers of Rahul-Priyanka are not going to be frightened with the oppressive measures of the Yogi government and we will fight it out on the streets. The Congress has a glorious tradition of struggle. For the sake of democracy, we will hit the streets against the anti-Dalit-OBC Yogi government.

She said that Mr Alam was a popular student leader of Allahabad University and has always fought for the rights of Dalits and other deprived sections of the society. The unconstitutional arrest of Alam will cost Yogi Government dearly, said Mrs Mona.
