Nine infants die at JK Lon Hospital of Rajasthan, who responsible

Kota: 11 december In just 24 hours, nine infants have died at JK Lon Hospital of Kota district of Rajasthan. The parents of the deceased children have alleged negligence of Hospital staff in the matter. As per the available reports family members of the infants are sitting on a dharna outside the hospital.

However the hospital authorities have termed infant deaths as ‘usual’.
But parent of an infant has a different version on the issue ,”When we took our baby to the hospital, the staff said we can’t do anything and the doctors will see him in the morning.” Another family member of the deceased infant has accused staff of not doing enough on time leading to the death of the baby.

Rajasthan Health Minister Raghu Sharma while speaking on the issue said ,”The report I have received shows that 3 out of the nine babies were brought dead to the hospital. The other three children had birth related problems and the remaining three infants developed problem due to COT. We have instructed authorities to ensure no infant deaths should occur in the future,”

Hospital officials have argued there was no major lapse in the treatment of infants. However this is not the first time when the hospital staff has faced allegations of negligence. In 2019, nearly 100 infants had died at the hospital in just one month.

In January this year, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had taken cognizance of the death of infants at Kota hospital. The commission had issued a notice to the state government seeking a detailed report in the matter within four weeks. NHRC had said that the notice was issued to the state government to ensure that such incidents do not reoccur in the future.

State Government should come forward and order a high level probe in the deaths of infants in this hospital. Medical fraternity of this hospital cannot be allowed to be negligent in the treatment of infants and if negligence is proved guilty should be punished.
